The 21 defendants of the D'Avino clan of Somma Vesuviana were sentenced to 131 years in prison (only one was acquitted), despite the trial being conducted using the abbreviated procedure, which allows for sentence reductions. Preliminary hearing judge Bruno D'Urso handed down heavy sentences to Giovanni D'Avino, Ferdinando D'Avino, Stefano D'Avino, Camillo Giuliano, Mario Schetter, Michele Iossa, Nadia Bova (under house arrest); Domenico Terracciano, Francesco Ioia, Fabio Civita, Giovanni Mosca, Raffaele Anastasio, Clemente De Cicco, Salvatore Esposito, Giuseppe D'Ambrosio, Ferdinando Aprile, Domenico Giordano and Carmine Giordano (under house arrest), Claudio Auriemma, and Fabio Caruana. The investigation that led to the trial shed light on a series of bloody events, including attacks and extortion committed between 2010 and 2014 in the territories of Somma Vesuviana and Sant'Anastasia, when the two rival criminal cartels (Anastasio – D'Avino) clashed to divide that piece of territory.

During the complex investigation, it emerged that the godfather Giovanni D'Avino, nicknamed 'o bersagliere, was the true master of the organization, within which his sons Ferdinando and Stefano held a prestigious position. During the investigation, it came to light that the D'Avino group (and also the Anastasios) enforced the payment of protection money not only from local businessmen, by cashing "dancing" checks that were no longer paid, but also from those who managed the drug dealing centers. Ferdinando D'Avino (son of the boss), Stefano D'Avino, played a key role in the management of the drug dealing centers. The gang aimed to place candidates on the lists for the municipal elections.
Concrete help, as Il Roma recalled, was offered to the investigative activities by informants including Giuseppe Sarno 'o Mussillo and Domenico Altieri, without forgetting the former boss of Forcella, Maurizio Ferraiuolo.
