Caserta. Sniffer dogs are being used to locate the body of the Piedimonte Matese construction entrepreneur who disappeared on April 23, 2008. The Piedimonte Matese Carabinieri will conduct further investigations tomorrow morning, after the Santa Maria Capua a Vetere Public Prosecutor's Office reopened the case into the disappearance and murder of Sandro Ottaviani, who vanished from the municipality of Dragoni nine years ago. Investigators believe Ottaviani was murdered, and the prosecutor's office is now investigating the case for voluntary manslaughter. Immediately after his disappearance, there were rumors that the entrepreneur had fled abroad, and for years the investigation made no progress. At the end of last year, the prosecutor's office filed a motion to dismiss the case, but it was opposed by the entrepreneur's family, represented by lawyer Carlo Grillo. The investigating judge interviewed Ottaviani's daughters and a few months ago decided to order the continuation of the investigation. "We have uncovered contradictions that emerged from the investigations immediately following Ottaviani's disappearance," explains attorney Grillo. A few weeks ago, the Prosecutor's Office opened a murder case, investigating two people, including the Neapolitan businessman to whom Ottaviani had rented the industrial warehouse in Dragoni where the disappearance occurred. On April 23, 2008, Ottaviani was supposed to meet with the tenant of his property, whom he was seeking legal eviction from. The Piedimonte builder was last seen by witnesses in the warehouse yard; in the hours and days that followed, searches were also conducted in the Volturno River, but no trace of his body was found. The new search, for which the Carabinieri of the Piedimonte Matese Company have been assigned, will begin tomorrow morning with the participation of "expert investigators" such as the molecular dogs of the Bologna Canine Unit, capable of sniffing out even a single odor molecule from an individual, even years after their disappearance.
