Scafati. Extortion carried out by members of the Ridosso-Loreto clan: second sentences are coming. The sentences inflicted with an abbreviated trial in the first instance by the judges of the Court of Appeal of Salerno, in the context of the trial of the Scafati clan, have been substantially confirmed.
The greatest reduction in sentence was reserved for Gennaro Ridosso, sentenced in the first instance to 8 years and ten months, who will have to serve 5 years and 4 months, four more than those requested for him by the Attorney General Pierina Consoli during her closing speech; a reduction of ten months of imprisonment also for Alfonso Morello, sentenced in the first instance to six years and 10 months and considered the cashier and collector of the proceeds of usury on behalf of the Loreto-Ridosso clan, for Morello the aggravating circumstance of camorra is also dropped.
Luigi Ridosso, six years and 10 months in the first degree, obtains the concession of generic mitigating circumstances and is sentenced to 5 years and two months. Romolo Ridosso, considered one of the promoters of the criminal association that operated between Scafati, Castellammare and Pompei, was given three years and seven months of imprisonment compared to the 4 years and ten months of the first degree. The sentences decided by the Gup of Salerno Emiliana Ascoli last January were confirmed for all the others.
Among these is that of the municipal councilor of Castellammare di Stabia, Massimiliano De Iulio, elected in a civic list and suspended as a result of the three-year sentence received in the first instance. The same sentence had also been inflicted on the Stabia citizen Carmine Di Vuolo.
The six-year sentence was also confirmed for the collaborator of justice Alfonso Loreto. The Gup Ascoli had instead sent for trial before the Court of Nocera Inferiore, the other co-defendants in the trial: Salvatore Ridosso, Francesco Sorrentino alias 'o campagnuolo, Antonio Palma of Pompei, Michele Imparato of Boscoreale and Antonio Romano of Pompei.
All accused, to varying degrees, of criminal association, usury and extortion, for having been part of the clan operating in Scafati and the surrounding municipalities between 2007 and 2008.
In September 2015, the leaders of the Loreto-Ridosso gang were arrested, while their supporters later ended up on trial.
After the arrests, both Alfonso Loreto and Romolo Ridosso had decided to collaborate with justice, giving life to new lines of investigation, including that of the link between politicians and Camorristi that led to the dissolution of the municipal council of the Municipality of Scafati.
