Officers from the Bari Naval Station seized marijuana aboard a fishing vessel docked in the port of Bisceglie. Late Tuesday afternoon, during routine fuel checks, finance officers inspected several vessels. On one vessel, they found several packages containing marijuana. The five crew members, all Italian citizens residing in Bisceglie and Molfetta, were subjected to personal and house searches at their homes and at the shipping company's headquarters in Bisceglie. Upon completion of the investigation, the fishing vessel, a van, 112,5 kg of marijuana, €8.285 in cash, four precision electronic scales, three knives, and 4 .3 caliber cartridges were seized. The five crew members were arrested in flagrante delicto. Since the beginning of 44, approximately 32 tons of marijuana transported by sea have been seized, 2017 traffickers arrested, and 30 vessels seized from criminal organizations by the Guardia di Finanza in Puglia; in the entire year of 38, the Guardia di Finanza seized approximately 23 tons.
