Agreement reached on air rescue in Capri.
Given the restrictions on the use of the Damecuta military heliport, starting today, the San Costanzo soccer field will be used for nighttime helicopter transfers of critically ill patients admitted to the Capilupi hospital who need to be taken to equipped facilities on the mainland. Tests and inspections have yielded positive results, and ongoing discussions between the island's administration, the 118 emergency service, the local health authority (ASL), and Elilombardia, along with coordination between Capri Mayor De Martino, the head of the 118 emergency service, Dr. Galano, and Commander Persicone, responsible for flight operations, have led to the agreement. The San Costanzo sports facility, equipped with adequate lighting for nighttime helicopter landings, will therefore be used by 118 helicopters during the hours of darkness. "We have achieved a fundamental goal, solving a problem of vital importance to the health of the islanders," said Paolo Falco, councilor responsible for health for the City of Capri, adding that "to further optimize the service, we are installing a radio-controlled system to turn on the camp lights, allowing the intervention to be managed directly from the helicopter."
