The International Festival of 700th Century Neapolitan Music has reached its 35th edition this year thanks to the commitment and care of the Domenico Scarlatti Association (which this year celebrates its 7 years of activity) and the Il Canto di Virgilio association. The musical farce, “Mozart alla corte di Pulcinella”, will open the event, which will take place in Naples from 2017 December 6 to 2018 January 7, on Thursday 21.00 December at 10:XNUMX pm at the Domus Ars in via Santa Chiara XNUMX, produced by the Il Canto di Virgilio association.
Mozart at the Court of Pulcinella. A show bordering on the grotesque where the events of the youthful journey of the genius from Salzburg mix with the memories of Pulcinella, destined to protect the Neapolitans who have “passed away” to a better life. On stage with Franco Javarone and Antonella Morea also Sara Grieco, Diane Patierno, Pietro Quirino, Antonio Faiello, Maria Teresa Iannone and the Santa Chiara Quartet. Scenic elements by Bruno De Luca, costumes by Maria Pennacchio, direction by Carlo Faiello.
Mozart arrives at the Fontanelle cemetery, where Pulcinella has long been the guardian of the souls in purgatory. The musician, in a series of paradoxical events, insistently asks to (be hosted) to become part of the "ward" of the "Neapolitan dead". He is haunted by the memory of his visit to Naples in the spring of 1770; the young Amadeus, just fourteen years old, stayed in Naples for over a month and a half, having the opportunity to get to know the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and its glorious musical school. His stay in the city was decisive for the artistic formation of the Austrian composer. Mozart confides in Pulcinella, a mask/symbol in very close relationship with the world of the dead, how the charm and enchantment of the Vesuvian places inspired his works.
Thus, the Austrian composer recalls the music he had the opportunity to listen to (breathe) while moving through the noisy alleys of the eighteenth-century capital: Giovan Battista Pergolesi and the peasant tammurriate; Domenico Cimarosa and the hypnotic rhythms of the tarantellas; Giovanni Paisiello and the songs “a fronne 'e limone”; Leo Vinci Niccolò Piccinni and the sounds of the numerous wandering musicians present in the city.
The program of the International Festival of 700th Century Neapolitan Music includes seven concerts, from instrumental to sacred music, from comic opera to cultured and popular music with the aim of spreading the works of the Masters of the unsurpassed Neapolitan School of Music in an operation of recovery of the "memory": Domenico Scarlatti, Gaspar Sanz, Francesco Durante, Nicolò Porpora, Domenico Cimarosa, Giovanni Paisiello, Ferdinando Carulli, Lauro Rossi of whom an unpublished comic opera will be proposed, Un Maestro ed una Cantante, admirably recovered by Maestro Ivano Caiazza and directed by Filippo Zigante.
