Attempted extortion: this is the charge that led to a soldier serving with the Guardia di Finanza in Caserta being placed under house arrest by order signed by investigating judge Elvira Tamburelli. According to prosecutor Antonio Clemente, Romanelli allegedly asked the owner of a Pomezia business for €5 and the hiring of his partner's son. In exchange, he allegedly suppressed the results of certain checks that, he claimed, the Finance Police intended to conduct on the business. The investigation by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office and the Guardia di Finanza in Pomezia began in late February following a complaint from the businessman, who refused to pay and preferred to disclose everything to investigators. "You have 5 good reasons for doing this," the arrested soldier allegedly told the victim of the attempted extortion in a wiretapped telephone conversation, trying to persuade her to pay.
