Tragedy narrowly avoided this afternoon in Casola di Napoli due to the collapse of an old building in the center of the town. Heavy rains caused water to seep into the perimeter walls of an old building located in Vico D'Auria Primo, a side street of the main Via Roma. The first signs of the disaster had already been seen last Sunday when residents of nearby buildings heard creaking sounds coming from the walls. Luckily, no one had lived in the building that collapsed this afternoon during the heavy downpour for a few years. Fear for residents of nearby buildings who nevertheless took to the streets. Firefighters were on site to carry out static checks on adjacent buildings and secure the area. Law enforcement and Mayor Peccirillo were also on site.
