We move to war scenarios for the third evening of the Author's Fridays of the Pro Loco of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino with "Afghanistan. Diary of a Doctor" by Rino Pauciulo - Gaia Edizioni - which will be presented on Friday 27 April at 20.00:XNUMX pm in the Ferdinando Ferrajoli Civic Library in via Pulcinella.
Once again the literary review changes subject and, after current events and noir fiction, moves on to a story of real life. “Afghanistan. Diary of a Doctor” is an original, authentic and engaging book. It narrates in the first person the experience lived in the Middle East by a man, even before being a doctor, who went there from February 14 to June 16, 2012 as a medical officer of the Italian Red Cross, who left as a volunteer to treat soldiers and populations. The desire to remember the daily life of the days of the ISAF mission, his thoughts and the many emotions, are the architrave of Pauciulo's book, which strikes for the authenticity and immediacy with which it is read. In the book's preface the reader is warned: "It feels like being in those areas and almost smelling them as you leaf through the pages of his story, so minutely are the working days described that they always reveal more of a man than a soldier, a volunteer more than a collector of badges to put on his uniform."
The author of the diary, Rino Pauciulo, is a surgeon. He served for years at the Umberto Primo hospital in Nocera Inferiore in the Emergency Surgery department, today he is the director in charge of the Emergency Room at the Eboli Hospital. He has been involved in volunteer work for a long time, among other things he is a medical officer of the Military Corps of the Red Cross. He has provided his medical services in crisis scenarios such as Afghanistan, Libya, the Balkans at the time of the Rainbow Mission. He was embarked on the ships of the Navy for the Mare Nostrum operation to rescue migrants in the Mediterranean and on the aircraft carrier Cavour for the mission "The Country System in Movement" which touched several countries in Africa.
The president of Pro Loco Angela De Rosa states: "With the third appointment we give voice to an author of the territory. With the meetings of the Author's Friday we want to invite people to reflect and discuss various topics, it is no coincidence that the second part of the appointment, after a moderated interview, is entirely left to questions from the public. On Friday evening we hope to start an interesting discussion with a person from our lands who brings us a particular human experience in difficult places, who can help us understand the tragedy that is taking place in the war-torn Middle East".
After the appointment with “Afghanistan. Diary of a doctor” on April 27, the Author Fridays continue on May 4 with “Da Sud” a volume by various authors edited by Mimmo Oliva for Polis Sa Edizioni, in which important names in the Campania cultural panorama analyze Southern Italy from a singular, never predictable point of view, contrasted with the Southern question and the Northern question.
On Friday, May 11, another topic of great interest will be addressed: terrorism, which will be addressed and analyzed with a journalist who has written several books on the subject. Simone Di Meo will present his: “I chose to go and live in hell. Confessions of an ISIS terrorist”.
On Friday 18 May the veil will be torn away from one of the most ferocious massacres of the Nazi-fascists: the Niccioleta massacre of 1944, with Redenta Formisano and her “Prima che me ne scordi”.
On Friday 25 May, Dutch journalist Maarten Van Aalderen, correspondent from Italy for De Telegraaf, one of the most prestigious newspapers in Holland, presents his “Talenti d'Italia”, a journey through the young excellences of the Bel Paese.
The closing is on Friday 1st June, with Isaia Sales who will analyze how the mafias are scaling the economy with the volume "The mafias in the global economy. Between the law of the State and the laws of the market", written in collaboration with Simona Melorio.
