The Avellino Financial Police, acting on orders from the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office, have seized the facilities of the AIAS nonprofit organization operating in the rehabilitation sector in the municipalities of Nusco and Calitri. The closures were implemented in the late morning and follow the closure of the AIAS center in Avellino, which occurred last February at the initiative of the Local Health Authority (ASL), due to poor sanitation and hygiene. The shutdown in Alta Irpinia is believed to be related to activities linked to the resigning former president of AIAS, Gerardo Bilotta, and the president of the "Noi con Loro" association, Anna Maria Scarinzi (wife of Ciriaco De Mita), whose bank accounts were seized. Today's raid adds another chapter to the investigation opened by Avellino Public Prosecutor Rosario Cantelmo, which has ten people under investigation on various counts, including Bilotta and Scarinzi, for false invoicing, money laundering, and criminal conspiracy. Specifically, investigators are looking into invoices totaling €817 to a bar and an IT company issued by the Avellino AIAS, to which the "Noi con Loro" association had leased the facilities for its healthcare and outpatient services for years. Another aspect of the investigation concerns the accounting situation of AIAS, which has since been placed under special administration by its national leadership, which highlights €5 million in debts owed to INPS and the Revenue Agency. Following the closure of the Avellino center, the 280 patients, adults and children with autism spectrum disorders undergoing post-ischemic rehabilitation, were transferred to and treated at centers and hospitals within the Avellino Local Health Authority (ASL). The 150 employees of the three AIAS centers only recently received three months' wages after more than seven months without a salary.
