A multi-organ transplant was performed last night at the Nola hospital on a 78-year-old man who died of a cerebral hemorrhage. The elderly man, originally from the Vesuvian area, had been hospitalized at the same Nola hospital for five days. After determining that his condition was irreversible, his family consented to the transplant. The liver and kidneys were removed and sent to Naples and Catania, respectively, for reimplantation; the corneas were delivered to a bank for preservation while awaiting a recipient. The transplant was performed by a specialized team from the Cardarelli hospital in Naples, assisted by Nola staff coordinated by the director of intensive care, Umberto Vincenti.
