In a note, the Smi (Italian Doctors' Union) of the ASL Napoli 1 center with the secretary Ernesto Esposito and National SMI councilor expresses satisfaction with the speech of Minister Giulia Grillo at the Anaao congress held yesterday.
Esposito (SMI): "The Minister referred in his first public appearance to the problem of attacks against doctors and to the well-known incident that affected our colleague and SMI manager Serafina Strano from Catania (raped during the service) who was greeted by colleagues in the audience with great applause. On this incident we forwarded our request to the Minister to increase the safety of doctors without closing the night territorial posts because this would only be a surrender for the State and a dramatic cut in services for the weakest citizens without solving the problem of attacks. We have highlighted with data in hand the good results achieved with the model implemented by the ASL Napoli 1 center which covered with unarmed and in some cases armed surveillance all 10 territorial stations of continuity of care (formerly medical guard). This organizational model should be extended to all national stations with only one doctor on duty at night and especially in isolated territories notoriously at risk. A survey work is underway in Campania by the SMI on the most "at risk" positions and the results will be presented by us to the Ministry of Health in order to urge the competent ASL to reorganize safety in these notoriously "at risk" facilities. Furthermore, the Minister of Health has called on all doctors to participate and if necessary to show additional self-denial which is in fact a distinctive feature of our profession in all sectors". The Note concludes by thanking the Minister of Health for the sensitivity once again shown above all for the health of citizens.
