The Salerno Coast Guard, led by Captain Giuseppe Menna, intervened last night to rescue a fifty-year-old man aboard a catamaran. Following a broken sail, he was unable to control the vessel, left adrift in the waves caused by strong, rapidly increasing north-east winds. The distress call, made by the vessel's captain, was received by the operations room of the Salerno Port Authority, which took over the rescue effort, dispatching personnel from the Amalfi Local Maritime Office to the scene. Meanwhile, first aid had already been provided by the tender of a yacht anchored in the area. The Coast Guard then reached and rescued the catamaran approximately 1,5 miles from Amalfi, bringing it safely back to port.
