Arzano. Relations between politics and the Camorra are under scrutiny by magistrates, with the positions of at least four city councilors on their desks. Not counting those who have served in the past. A strong, powerful, and infiltrated Camorra, like a veritable octopus, it threatens, intimidates, silences, and controls everything from within and without. This is the devastating picture emerging in recent hours in Arzano, which has just returned to the polls after yet another Camorra-related dissolution. The administration, which ended in May 2017, appears to have had no effect. Magistrates are reportedly intent on delving deeper into the matter and understanding the dynamics linking known Camorra members and associates of the Amato-Pagano clan, the Licciardi, Moccia, and Misso clans, and several elected city councilors. Such close ties have led to them being photographed alongside Camorra royalty. Not the usual newspaper stories based on summaries drawn from the dissolution proceedings, but events so sensational as to shock the Prefect of Naples, Carmela Pagano, and the magistrates of two prosecutors' offices who have been monitoring all local institutions in recent months. Individuals already definitively convicted of mafia-style criminal association are said to have vested interests powerful enough to block the city's bureaucratic procedures. Clear incompatibilities and unqualified individuals are said to be holding public offices. Not to mention the ubiquitous construction industry, where former administrators, also linked to the local Camorra, are said to be sponsoring the practices of powerful and extremely wealthy members of the Di Lauro clan. Also targeted are undercutting contracts and unpublished documents. Connivances are said to extend right into the local police force through men closely linked to members of the former clan of the deceased boss Ciro Casone. A veritable powder keg.
