A three-year-old girl nearly drowned after falling into a residential cistern well. Her mother, who jumped into the well and held her head above water, and a passerby who lowered himself with a rope saved the tragedy. The incident occurred in San Quirico d'Orcia, near Siena, where this afternoon a little girl slipped into a 7-meter-deep well inside her home. At the time of the fall, the well was apparently open because a pump was pumping out water. The mother, after jumping into the well, where there were still 2 meters of water, was unable to get out. Only thanks to a passerby, alerted by neighbors, was it possible to rescue the mother and child: the man lowered himself into the well with a rope and pulled them out. Carabinieri, firefighters, and 118 ambulances, along with the Pegaso ambulance, were on the scene. The little girl only suffered severe shock and mild hypothermia: she is in the hospital but only for tests.
