For several days, the Carabinieri special unit of the DIS (Internal Support Device) has been operational in Vallo di Lauro, in the province of Avellino. At the direction of the Provincial Command, it will supplement the local police stations' services. The decision was also made in light of recent criminal incidents in the area, which for decades has seen the conflict between the Camorra clans of the Cava and Graziano families. A few days ago, a firecracker destroyed the car of a businessman from Pago Valle Lauro who was scheduled to testify the following morning in a trial against extortion defendants. The DIS is composed of several dozen Carabinieri who, over the course of 24 hours, will provide specific support to the Quindici and Lauro stations in controlling the area through checkpoints, searches for illegally held weapons, and monitoring individuals subject to preventive measures.
