Carabinieri officers from the Cercola station and the San Giorgio a Cremano station have arrested Ciro Amato, 31, from San Giorgio a Cremano, on suspicion of crime. Amato, already known to law enforcement, is currently being held in semi-liberty at the Secondigliano penitentiary.
He is considered responsible for two robberies at supermarkets in Cercola, the “Sigma” and the “Duesse” committed together with accomplices who are still being identified in the late afternoon of June 18.
He was identified thanks to the viewing of videos taken from video surveillance systems; immediately afterwards, during a search of his home, clothes corresponding to those worn during the commission of the robberies were found and seized.
During the raids, he had forced the employees of the shops to hand over around 5.000 euros, the total contents of the tills, by threatening them with a gun. On one occasion, he had also robbed a customer, forcing him to empty his pockets and give him what he had in his possession: around 70 euros in cash and 2 mobile phones.
During the operations, the house in San Giorgio a Cremano of his partner, 35-year-old Annabella Giova, was also searched; in the house a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with erased serial number and 15 cartridges were found and seized as well as the sum of 2.900 euros in cash for the possession of which the woman was unable to provide any plausible explanation.
The detainee was taken to the Poggioreale District Prison while the company was placed under house arrest as ordered by the judicial authority. That after the validation of the detention and arrest that Amato remain in prison and Giova under house arrest.
