A doctor at the Frignano Local Health Authority (ASL) facility in the province of Caserta was attacked inside his office by a patient, who then fled. The woman suffered a head injury and several bruises after being jostled and knocked to the floor. The incident occurred a few days ago and was reported to the authorities. The incident was announced by SNAMI (National Autonomous Union of Doctors) and the Caserta Medical Association, whose president, Maria Erminia Bottiglieri, stated that this is not the first time such incidents have occurred and that urgent intervention is required. "After yet another attack on a health worker," Bottiglieri said, "we are loudly calling for an end to this wave of violence against doctors and healthcare workers. We are the most exposed, as we are in direct contact with citizens who are angry for so many reasons, for malfunctions for which we are not responsible but which we too are affected. We want to understand what is intended to be done against these attacks, which now affect our province as well as Naples." "At the national level," continues the president of the Caserta doctors, "a ministerial committee and a working group of which I am a member have been established and are working on several fronts: distributing a questionnaire to all doctors to highlight the hidden costs, given that many incidents go unreported; urging the Regions, and therefore the Directorates General, to verify whether the safety regulations established by the 2008 law are being respected in their territories; and organizing training courses aimed at the most exposed workers, namely those working in emergency departments and continuity of care, especially on communication. At the regional level, along with the other Campania presidents, we have written to Governor De Luca asking for his strong intervention in this regard and are awaiting his response."
