The eleventh edition of the Festival of Civil Engagement kicks off tomorrow in Casal di Principe. The event, launched eleven years ago and promoted by the Don Peppe Diana Committee and Libera, the Caserta provincial coordination body, aims to promote the reuse of assets confiscated from the mafia. This festival of art, music, and performances began as a local initiative and has grown into a national network of contacts and initiatives. The twenty scheduled stops will visit four different provinces, including Benevento and Bologna, thanks to collaboration with European networks and Cinemovel, a traveling cinema caravan that tours Italy, screening films in public squares to raise public awareness of anti-mafia issues. This year's theme is "We're late, but we're still in time," a clear reference to the manifesto of the General States of the Lands of Don Peppe Diana, the result of various contributions from magistrates, journalists, law enforcement, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, doctors, teachers, trainers, and various professionals, who met in Casal di Principe in recent months to develop a concerted action pact for sustainable and legal development. The event begins tomorrow in Casal di Principe with the Festival kick-off dinner at Casa Don Diana, a property confiscated from the Camorra and managed by the Don Peppe Diana Committee. The second event will take place in Succivo, at the Casale del Teverolaccio, with "Orti in Festa nella notte di solstizio d'estate," an initiative that will rediscover the value of the garden as a common good and guardian of local traditions. On June 28, 29, and 30, the European network "Culture Against the Camorra" will stop in Casal di Principe, against labor exploitation and for greater consumer protection. The program of events expands starting in the first week of July with a day dedicated to medical prevention (July 3) and the contribution of the Roche Foundation; Don Diana Day (July 4), which includes the presentation of the "Don Peppe Diana National Award - For the Love of My People"; and on July 5, with the association "La Forza del Silenzio" (The Strength of Silence) at the confiscated property on Via Bologna. The Festival of Civil Engagement will then move to Benevento, Avellino, Bologna, Aversa, Castelvolturno, Casapesenna, and Pignataro, concluding in Sessa Aurunca on July 28.
