“In the end, this battle of civilization, as already happened with the Christmas tree in Galleria Umberto I this Christmas, we who love Naples and its beauties will win, and the vandals and the uncivilized, sooner or later, will have to come to terms with it”. This was stated by the regional councilor of the Greens, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, and the speaker Gianni Simioli of La radiazza on Radio Marte, reporting that “during the night, the Monteoliveto fountain, which in recent days had returned to being an open-air landfill and had even been used to urinate in, was once again used as a wastebasket”. “This morning too, however, the members of the Cooperativa 25 giugno, protagonists of yesterday's extraordinary cleaning, cleaned the fountain” added Borrelli and Simioli, reiterating “for the umpteenth time the request for a fence for the Monteoliveto fountain, like the one that was there in past centuries, or, as requested by Massimiliano Rosati, patron of Gambrinus, moving it to Piazza del Plebiscito where the owners of Gambrinus would be willing to 'adopt' it to guarantee its maintenance”.
