UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, calls for "the explicit condemnation of hate crimes," according to the statement released following the shooting of the Malian chef in Naples. "In an increasingly tense and intolerant climate, we condemn this episode of violence and hope that those responsible will be identified without delay," said Felipe Camargo, UNHCR Representative for Southern Europe. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, "also firmly condemns any irresponsible attempt to foment discrimination," according to a statement released following the shooting of the Malian chef in Naples. "This," emphasized Felipe Camargo, UNHCR Representative for Southern Europe, "is yet another attack against asylum seekers or beneficiaries of protection, people seeking safety and rights in Italy." UNHCR hopes "that the measures envisaged to create an effective system for the social inclusion of asylum seekers and refugees will be supported by the will and adequate resources of the institutions", and appeals to all components of Italian society "to promote concrete actions to avoid intolerance and indifference and to spread a climate of inclusion, welcoming refugees and asylum seekers and countering hateful exploitations that aim to exclude and marginalize them".
