Pietro Losurdo, a 55-year-old mafia informant believed to be close to the Parisi clan of Bari, is the man who allegedly killed Pierpaolo Perez, 49, last night in his home in Bitetto. Losurdo is currently in custody for the murder. Perez was killed with a shot to the face fired from a 9mm Parabellum pistol found to be stolen in Switzerland. Losurdo, who is under house arrest, contacted his lawyer immediately after Perez's killing, first informing the prosecutor's office and then turning himself in to the Carabinieri. According to reports, the man, who escaped from house arrest for reasons still unclear, told investigators that he had no intention of killing Perez, but that it was an accident. This version is currently being examined by investigators.
