The cocaine was hidden in books whose pages had been soaked in it before shipping and then extracted through a complex chemical process. This is the discovery made by Carabinieri officers from Ivrea (Turin), who identified a drug extraction and production laboratory in the kitchens of a bar in the center of San Giusto Canavese (Turin). The cocaine was contained in Spanish-language legal texts. It was recovered from the pages using a sophisticated solvent. Four people—an Italian, two Peruvians, and a Colombian—were arrested for complicity in the production of narcotics. The operation began last night in the hometown of Nicola Assisi, the fugitive drug trafficker whose villa was set on fire by unknown assailants two weeks ago, shortly after it was confiscated.
