Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on the streets of London to mark the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS) and demand an end to government cuts to the health service, which has undergone vast privatizations in recent years, according to the Guardian online. Holding signs reading "Cuts leave scars," "For people who don't make profits," and "Democracy or corporate power," the protesters then stopped in front of Downing Street to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Theresa May. Shortly thereafter, opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn addressed the march—organizers estimated there were at least 40 participants—calling for an end to privatization, a closure of the internal market so that staff are no longer subcontracted to private companies, and for social care to be adequately funded.
