“Thirty-one million in funds from the Municipality of Salerno, fifteen million from the Campania Region, approximately two million paid by the Ministry for Cultural Activities. This is the total amount of public funds allocated over the last eight years for the Verdi Theater in Salerno, whose accounts continue to be miserably in the red. Funding began with De Luca as mayor of Salerno and increased with an increase in funds from the Campania Region, from the day De Luca himself became governor. Suffice it to say that from 2015 to today the Region has funded the Verdi with one and a half million a year. An incredible burden compared to a box office takings that covers no more than 15% of the total public funds and an almost entirely zero allocation of stage equipment and costumes, promptly rented by the Municipality of Salerno itself on the instructions of the artistic director. A paradox to which are added the doubts about the choice of suppliers, which are headed by only three associations, two of which are managed by people in close kinship with each other, while the third is also vice president of one of the other two associations". This is what the group leader in the Regional Council of the 5 Star Movement Gennaro Saiello and the regional councilor M5S Michele Cammarano denounce.
“The affair – Saiello and Cammarano announce – is already the subject of a complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Salerno, presented by activists from the local Meetup, and in the next few days it will be brought to the attention of the Special Transparency Commission, during which we will hear from the regional council and the top management of the Verdi theatre in Salerno”.
