Osvaldo Capecchi, originally from Rossano Calabro, and his partner Patrizia Manetti, born in Florence, both 69, were stabbed in their bed and then presumably 'ended up' on the floor. They were found dead this morning in the apartment where they lived, on Via Longo all'Impruneta in Florence. According to investigators, the alleged perpetrator is one of the man's sons, Dario Capecchi, 43, who has serious mental health issues and is being treated at a mental health center. The man, who lived with the victims, reportedly left the house last night in his car, a Fiat Panda, and was later found by the Carabinieri in a confused state that afternoon. The bodies were discovered and the police were alerted by the deceased man's other son. He still lives in Impruneta, but elsewhere. He had gone to his father's house after a neighbor had alerted him that there had been a violent argument between his father and the 43-year-old man during the night. According to reconstructions, the victims were struck multiple times with a sharp weapon; it is believed to have been a knife, but it has not yet been found. An initial coroner's examination suggests the murder occurred between 1:00 and 2:00 AM last night. The man's 43-year-old son, Dario, was found by the Carabinieri this afternoon, after a search, in a wooded area near Calenzano. Shortly before, traffic police had found his car, an older Fiat Panda, abandoned along the emergency lane of the nearby A1 motorway. His cell phone had been located in the area shortly before. The man, the military explained, was in a state of confusion, uttering incoherent sentences. He was then taken to the Florence provincial headquarters for questioning by prosecutor Massimo Lastrucci, in the presence of a public defender. According to information, the 43-year-old has two of his fingers bandaged; investigators are investigating how he may have injured himself. According to acquaintances, the 43-year-old, who had been working for a terracotta company in Impruneta for several months, appears to have stopped taking the medication he was undergoing for his condition several days ago. Also on site today were one of Impruneta's parish priests and social services councilor Laura Cioni, who confirmed to reporters that the 43-year-old was being treated by psychiatric services but was not being followed by the city's social services. Capecchi's other son remained for a long time today in front of the building where his father, a former employee of the Florentine public transport company ATAF, lived, surrounded by friends and neighbors. Also on the scene was the son of Capecchi's partner, the woman with whom the 69-year-old had been living since becoming a widower. Neighbors and acquaintances remained silent today, with only a few letting slip that the law doesn't protect those who have mentally ill individuals in their homes.
