On Tuesday, June 26, the "Giosuè Carducci" Comprehensive School hosted the awarding of scholarships, established by Mayor Felice Di Maiolo and named "In Memory of Professor Ernesto Castaldo – 9th Edition." The 2017/2018 school year concluded with the awarding of five deserving students, the result of the Mayor's personal philanthropic initiative, launched in 2010. The ceremony was held at the "Carducci" Comprehensive School on the day of the School Council meeting. All teachers and the Headmistress, Dr. Giovanna Afrodite Zarra, were present. Zarra stated: "The scholarships, established by Mayor Di Maiolo, are awarded based on the recommendation of the Teachers' Council, in accordance with the school's independent assessment of the entire educational path of deserving students. This year the winners of the third classes sections A, B, C, D, E, respectively are: Noemi Di Monda, Michele Nicolella, Simona Tammaro, Felice Cennamo, Giuseppina Tramontano».
Mayor Di Maiolo gave each of them a scholarship with a parchment that bore this thought: "Commitment, dedication and love for study determine the achievement of the goals you have set for yourself. May the awarding of the scholarship be, for you, a further incentive to continue, to the best of your ability, the course of studies you have undertaken and, equally, constitute adequate gratification for the work done. Best wishes."
The Mayor then expressed: «congratulations to the award winners and encouragement to them and all the other students to continue their studies well. I would like to give due recognition to the parents who with so many sacrifices support their children who, at the IC “Carducci”, can count on excellent teachers. Among these, in the past there was Professor Ernesto Castaldo, an example of attachment to the school, an eminent figure of educator to whose Memory we dedicate these scholarships».
On the same day, at the end of the Institute Council, the Mayor delivered parchments of appreciation and thanks for the honorable service provided to the IC “Carducci” to two boarders: the Teacher, Elena Pirozzi, and the Administrative Assistant, Consiglia Di Monda.
Then, addressing the entire audience of teachers, alongside Principal Zarra, he stated: This year, the school of Mariglianella, following the retirements, is losing Principal Zarra, Deputy Lettieri, who have already had our farewell greeting, while now we are saying goodbye to Teacher Pirozzi and Administrative Assistant Di Monda. A void that all of you, together with those who will be assigned here to serve, will be able to fill in order to maintain the scholastic excellence achieved in these years. I thank you in advance - concluded the Mayor, Felice Di Maiolo - for the commitment that you will ensure to this school institution, a jewel in the crown, which attracts many new students from the surrounding area who join our dear kids who, with today's ceremony, feel encouraged to study because, in their lives, culture and merit are the ways to reach the full realization of every aspiration in study and work and this for the personal, family and all of Mariglianella satisfaction".
The ceremony concluded with a buffet in the familiar and friendly atmosphere of all the participants including the Councilor for Budget, Dr. Arcangelo Russo.
