The two nations, already mathematically qualified, were battling for top spot in Group G: the Red Devils finished with a perfect nine points, while England finished second with six. Januzaj's splendid goal in the sixth minute of the second half decided the match. Colombia defeated Senegal 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mina. Cuadrado played the full 90 minutes. Japan, however, lost their match against Poland but still advanced to the round of 6 thanks to Senegal's simultaneous defeat.
