The injuries that caused the death of Noemi Carrozza, the 20-year-old synchronized swimming champion who died on June 15th while riding her motorcycle along Via Cristoforo Colombo in Rome, are related to the trauma sustained in the accident. There is no evidence of illness. Prosecutor Stefano Luciani of the Rome prosecutor's office has opened an investigation and is pursuing a case of vehicular homicide. The accident was not caused by a collision with another vehicle or by cell phone use. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the condition of the road may have caused the victim to lose control of the vehicle. Therefore, the hypothesis that the uneven asphalt killed Noemi Carrozza, a synchronized swimming champion, is gaining ground. This hypothesis is further supported by the condition of the road at the point where Noemi lost her life. The roots of the pine trees lining Via Cristoforo Colombo, the main thoroughfare connecting Rome's city center to the coast, often form natural speed bumps along the road, sometimes even protruding from the cracks. One of these speed bumps may have thrown the twenty-year-old from her scooter on Friday afternoon. According to initial autopsy results, the injuries to the champion's body are consistent with trauma, ruling out sudden illness or microsleep. Witnesses who witnessed the accident also confirm that no other cars or vehicles were involved at the time of the accident. The Rome prosecutor's office has therefore opened a case for vehicular homicide, entrusted to prosecutor Stefano Luciani. Luciani will examine the findings of the local police who responded on the day of the accident and the autopsy results. The possibility of a fall caused by potholes was immediately raised by Noemi's mother, who has blamed poor road maintenance since day one. Meanwhile, tomorrow, friends, family, and her many training partners will bid farewell to Noemi. The funeral chapel will be open from 10:00 a.m. at the Ostia Swimming Center, where the champion was born and raised. Her friends have left countless messages on her Facebook page, including videos and photos of her exploits in the water. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the parish of Santa Monica, also on the Roman coast. Next Tuesday, June 26, the Faraday Technical Institute in Ostia will remember its former student with a public ceremony expected to be widely attended. Students and teachers will release 200 balloons into the sky, each containing a message dedicated to Noemi. "Goodbye, my little sister," her brother Marco wrote on Facebook, "we still had so much to say to each other. I hope you'll watch over me from up there, and that you'll still listen to your big brother. You don't know how much I love you."
