The Railway Police Department for Campania carried out extraordinary checks in the railway area this morning on suspicious persons, street vendors, passengers and luggage. Around 500 thousand people pass through Naples Central Station every day and during the summer period, especially on weekends, there is a significant increase in the flow of travellers. This leads to the need to further intensify prevention and control activities to improve the safety levels of tourists, commuters, travellers, shop customers and operators.

The control system was implemented with patrols of the Railway Police, in plain clothes and in uniform, and with the assistance of men from the Naples Police Headquarters, the Canine Unit, the Emergency Operations Unit (Uopi) and the Military involved in the “Safe Roads” Operation. A lookout service was also set up with police officers positioned on the roof of the station, equipped with binoculars, to observe from above and report any crimes being committed. This integrated security system will continue to be implemented during the summer, in close synergy with RFI Corporate Protection, on an almost daily basis. With the help of tendiflex and the new Polfer desks, all people entering the station passed under the watchful eye of the police officers, who also checked suspicious individuals and luggage using the metal detectors provided. The service devices set up allowed the following results to be achieved:

No. 168 people identified
No. 118 bags following checked travellers
No. 1 person reported to the AG
No. 1 photo signalling
No. 1 criminal seizures and no. 2 administrative seizures
No. 4 administrative sanctions

The officers checked MN, a thirty-year-old Senegalese, who was carrying a backpack in which he was hiding a batch of counterfeit glasses ready for sale. The man was reported at liberty for the crimes of selling products with false markings and receiving stolen goods and the glasses, bearing counterfeit brands of famous manufacturers such as Ray Ban, Prada and Gucci, were seized.
