Naples. Police have arrested two accomplices of Francesco De Martino, the leader linked to the De Micco clan of Ponticelli, a prisoner on parole who was injured the other evening during an ambush on Via Montale. On the same street, a few hours earlier, officers from the Ponticelli Police Station were in the courtyard of the home of Ciro Cerrato, a 20-year-old with a criminal record believed to be linked to the Minichini-De Luca Bossa clan. He was due to be checked when several scooters arrived, carrying two men armed with pistols and a machine gun, disguised by bandanas and caps. The officers' immediate intervention prevented the armed group from completing their attack on their intended target. However, during the chase, the four had ditched their caps, which allowed the officers to recognize them and file a missing person's report for illegal possession of weapons and threats. Last night, officers arrested two of the four members of Monday's armed gang. Umberto dello Iacolo and Carlo Esposito, 22 and 24 years old respectively, both from Naples. They will face charges of illegal possession and carrying of a semi-automatic weapon with a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition. The officers initially noticed two young men riding a scooter, which they then drove away on, temporarily disappearing. However, officers from the Ponticelli Police Station continued to patrol the Fiat neighborhood, again encountering the two young men on board a Lancia Y. At this point, they chased and stopped them. In the car, the officers found a sweatshirt next to the door, and inside it, an unserialized Sig-Sauer pistol complete with a magazine holding 15 9mm rounds. The weapon was seized, while Esposito and Dello Iacono were taken to the Poggioreale prison. Since yesterday morning, Francesco De Martino, father of the dangerous killer Antonio, has been held in Secondigliano prison. After the bullet that struck him in the buttock was removed and he was treated by doctors at Villa Betania, he returned home. Police are now tracking the last member of the commando behind the failed Cerrato ambush, and investigations are continuing to identify the perpetrators of De Martino's wounding.
