Naples. A young chef originally from Mali was wounded last night by unprovoked gunfire from a shotgun blast loaded with pellets. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Corso Umberto. The injured man, Bouyagui Konate, is 22 years old and has lived in Italy for four years. The young man was struck by a volley of pellets fired by several young men in a car who approached him as he was returning home from work along Corso Umberto in Naples. The young chef was struck in the abdomen and arm. He was then transported to Loreto Mare Hospital, where doctors removed the pellets and treated him. He is expected to recover in 10 days. Law enforcement is investigating the incident, having acquired footage from public and private surveillance cameras in the area to identify the perpetrators of the racially motivated attack. Bouyagui Konate is well-known among the migrant community and among young Neapolitans: he holds a valid residence permit and is a chef. He recently opened the multi-ethnic restaurant Kikana, run by other refugees and asylum seekers from various African countries. In February, Bouyagui shared his story of integration and his ethnic cuisine on the talent show Masterchef, airing on Sky channels, preparing dishes for the aspiring chefs to replicate. News of his injury has caused quite a stir and is making the rounds on social media.
