Naples. An investigation will determine the cause of the accident that occurred this morning at dawn on Via Posillipo, which could have turned deadly. Local police are attempting to reconstruct the circumstances. The car, carrying two young couples, swerved along the stretch of road near Baia ai Due Frati, in the lower part of Via Posillipo, for reasons still under investigation. It struck the guardrail, which instantly gave way, causing the car to leap into the void. The car plunged 21 meters into the courtyard of Villa Russo, a private park, and its fall was cushioned by trees. Law enforcement, ambulances, and numerous onlookers were on the scene. "The car," says Captain Antonio Muriano, "was traveling uphill on Via Posillipo when, after number 290, at the bend, evidently also due to the speed, which we will now determine, it crossed into the other lane, hit the railing, knocking it down, and fell 21 meters, ending its journey in the private garden below." Fortunately, there were no deaths among the four passengers on board. They are all young, two men and two women, one of whom, Aurora F., 20, is intubated at the Cardarelli Hospital. The most seriously injured is Rossella A. Two others, less seriously injured, Luca M. and Stefano S., are in the Fatebenefratelli Hospital.
The four injured people were extracted from the vehicle with the assistance of firefighters and law enforcement officers on the scene. Three of the four young people rescued were treated with maximum emergency treatment. Luca M., 21, and Rossella A., 20, both from Naples, were transferred to Cardarelli Hospital and are in more serious condition than the other victims. The boy suffered multiple injuries and a severe hip dislocation, while Rossella suffered numerous fractures, including rib fractures, and cerebral edema in the impact. She has now undergone delicate neurosurgery and her prognosis is guarded. The two less seriously injured, both 20-year-olds from Naples, were treated in the emergency room of Fatebenefratelli Hospital. The patients are Stefano S., a multiple trauma patient who is currently in stable condition in the short-term observation unit where diagnostic tests and instrumental examinations are underway, and Aurora F., who, after receiving first aid at the Posillipo hospital, is being transferred to the Cardarelli hospital. The young woman suffered a liver contusion that requires treatment in a specialized unit, although her general condition is not concerning and her clinical status is also stable. As is standard practice in such cases, the four young people were subjected to alcohol and drug tests.
