Naples pays tribute to Massimo Troisi and the 40th anniversary of the trio La Smorfia with a grand celebration in Piazza del Plebiscito. Starting this evening and continuing through Sunday, June 24, the program features entertainment personalities who had a professional and friendship relationship with the artist, who passed away on June 4, 1994. The artistic directors of the event are the other two protagonists of "La Smorfia," Lello Arena, Enzo Decaro, and Stefano Veneruso, Troisi's nephew. The event, promoted and organized by Tunnel Produzioni with the City of Naples, has 5,000 seats and is free to attend. Pippo Baudo, Renato Scarpa, Giancarlo Magalli, Renzo Arbore, Nino Frassica, Marisa Laurito, Enzo Avitabile, Sal Da Vinci, the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare, and Massimo Lopez are expected, but the organizers are announcing surprises. Each evening will open with a musical group, followed by a screening of a selection of the best videoboxes, which all fans of Massimo Troisi and La Smorfia can send to videobox@revuoto2018.it. For the initiative, an anthology of theatrical, television, and film productions by La Smorfia and Troisi has been created. Each evening's closing screening will feature a film, starting with "Ricomincio da tre." Also on stage every evening will be Fatima Trotta, Maria Bolignano, and Francesco Mastandrea.
