The Railway Police officers of the Naples Central Operations Sector stopped a criminal who had just moments before committed a scam with the “Global Pass”. The mechanism is this: the foreigner can buy an international ticket that has a variable duration and that allows, like a points card, a certain number of trips. On the basis of this international ticket, a so-called “global pass” can be purchased for ten euros, by entering the relevant code, which updates the trip. Some scammers are used to approach travelers by boasting of knowing a secret code to obtain large discounts on tickets. After convincing the victim, they enter a random code number at the automatic ticket machine, obtaining a ten-euro global pass ticket that will be unusable when checked on board the train.
Since the ticket contains the wording relating to the requested journey, the traveler is deceived and pays the scammer a sum, generally equal to half the cost of the ticket.
A thirty-six-year-old Neapolitan, known to the police as the author of this type of scam, was caught by the agents during yet another scam. The man had in fact approached a traveler intent on buying a ticket, offering to help him, to save him time and money. The unsuspecting buyer followed him to the automatic ticket machines where the man, using the "ghost" code, made two tickets for the unsuspecting victim's destination, asking him to give him 20 euros for the payment and asking him for another 50 euros on top of the amount spent. If the Polfer patrol together with the soldiers of the Operazione Strade Sicure had not promptly intervened, the young traveler would have undertaken the journey without tickets, but in the belief that he had regularly purchased them. GL who during the check rail inveighed against the uniformed operators was taken to the Polfer offices and after ascertaining the dynamics of the facts, confirmed by the victim in the complaint, he was reported for the crimes of attempted fraud and resisting and insulting a Public Official. He was also given an order to leave this railway station to
pursuant to art. 9 paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree 14/2017 and the related administrative sanction was contested.
