Castellammare. The final week of the election campaign in the former Stalingrad of the South, which has delivered the Democratic Party's worst result ever in Italian political history, with only one councilor elected to the city council, is being played out amid complaints and lawsuits. But in recent hours, a story that seemed like fake news concocted by some "joker" is circulating on social media. But no. It's all true. In fact, it's all implausible, with the left winking at the center-right. Officially, Free and Equal hasn't issued voting instructions for the runoff, yet in these hours more than one person must have been startled to see themselves invited to vote for Gaetano Cimmino. It wouldn't be unusual if the person sending that message, going against what was once called party discipline, hadn't been a member of Free and Equal. WhatsApp is the channel chosen by the young former city councilor Alessandro Zingone to urge his contacts to vote for the center-right leader. Despite all the electoral programs, the green light is for Cimmino. Indeed, if the latter wins, Free and Equal would enter the Palazzo Farnese benches with mayoral candidate Tonino Scala, who spent his entire campaign attacking Cimmino. The city is experiencing terrible days on the eve of the runoff elections. The crude and vulgar nature of the city has taken precedence over the plans to revive the fortunes of a tired Cinderella, who hasn't danced for years. The news reports tell of parcels and shopping bags with election flyers, of ballots photographed at a polling station. And of those who are already raising fuss about Camorra-related dissolutions. Investigations will tell whether the reports, complaints, and complaints are founded or not. Once again, "certain" elements have been seen marking their presence at polling stations in certain suburban neighborhoods. In the city, once a political laboratory, once again, like a refrain, on election day, the Camorra members return to the polls. If this is the case, the appeals and requests made by mayoral candidates have been to no avail. According to testimonies gathered by investigators, reputable individuals close to the clans operating in the city are said to have given voting instructions. Others are said to have delivered shopping bags complete with election flyers. Accusations, investigations, innocent souls who, from behind a screen, raise the bar of legality... And the city? Between a stroll along the seafront, a first dip, and the daily grind, it continues its silent life, leaving the venomous exchanges to insiders. And while on social media people distance themselves, there are those who silently try to lead the way...
