The eighth edition of “Venice in Naples. Extended Cinema” will be more than a film festival, the event directed by Antonella Di Nocera and promoted by Parallelo 41, in collaboration with the University of Naples “Federico II” and Arci Movie, supported by the Campania Region, scheduled from 24 to 28 October 2018 in various spaces in the city and suburbs of Naples, which renews its collaboration with the Venice International Film Festival thanks to the appreciation of the work done so far.
As in previous editions, “Venice in Naples” will bring to the city auteur titles from the Lido program, not all distributed in Italy, and national and international guests (in the past it has welcomed Xavier Legrand, Laurent Cantet, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Amos Gitai, Marco Bellocchio, Eduardo De Angelis and many others). From this year onwards, the festival will also be an opportunity for training and greater involvement of young people with prizes, concessions and training and cultural courses for students from Campania with the aim of consolidating promotion in the youth field and that cultural dissemination of cinema that has always characterized the event and the work of Di Nocera and her team.
In summary, there are four new initiatives:
FREE CULTURAL ACCREDITATIONS for all activities of the “Venice in Naples. Extended Cinema” festival for university students of all faculties and high schools in Campania, through a request with motivations;
TRAINING INTERNSHIPS during the five days of the event (for university students from Campania with a focus on cinema and audiovisual, and master's degrees in cinema, by sending a CV and cover letter);
TWO TRIPS WITH CULTURAL ACCREDITATION to participate in the International Film Festival (29 Aug/8 Sept. 2018) at the Lido di Venezia for the two most deserving students of the Degree Course in Music, Cinema and Entertainment at Federico II in Naples, a long-time partner of the event which this year includes an additional collaborative initiative. University students of cinema and audiovisual accredited for “Venice in Naples 2018” will also be able to apply to participate in a workshop in film criticism organized by the Department of Humanistic Studies at Federico II which will be held before the event next autumn;
SCHOOL-WORK ALTERNATION COURSES. The agreement with the Don Lorenzo Milani Institute of San Giovanni a Teduccio (Na) has also been launched to activate school-work alternation courses and also involve the very young people of the three-year course in graphics and audiovisuals, confirming the vocation of the event to promote cinema as a form of knowledge.
All requests must be sent to veneziaanapoli@gmail.com by July 20, 2018.
“Thanks to the new regional law on cinema that the sector has fought for,” explains Antonella Di Nocera, “festivals and reviews can now, as is right, have regional public support that allows them to guarantee promotional admissions to all young people and motivated students.”
“Venice in Naples. Extended Cinema” from 2011 to today has consolidated itself as an eagerly awaited regional and national event with exclusive meetings with directors and actors, screenings in the original language with Italian subtitles, but also classics for schools, involvement of associations, cultural institutes and city universities, to allow the cinema of the chosen authors to find space and vision in the city, beyond the limits of ordinary distribution. The festival takes place mainly at the Astra cinema, with events at La Perla, Modernissimo, Pierrot and Hart.
