Liberato Miccoli was sentenced to twelve years in prison for the manslaughter of his wife, Angela Della Torre. The sentence was handed down by the Court of Assizes, which granted the defendant the mitigating circumstances of provocation due to his anger and his having helped the woman. The tragedy, which occurred on May 20, 2015, in San Pietro di Castellabate, occurred during a jealous argument: the husband beat his wife to the point of causing her death, seven months later, as a result of the injuries sustained from the beating.
The man, a retired railway worker, was arrested two years later (May 2017) by the Carabinieri of the Agropoli company who, on the orders of the Vallo della Lucania prosecutor's office, following the death of the forty-nine-year-old (which occurred in a clinic in Telese Terme) decided to fully clarify the events.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, during the last argument with his wife, the man had repeatedly hit her head against a wall, causing a cerebral hemorrhage. And, again according to the accusations, it seems that the woman was the victim of the man's beatings: aggressions, however, never reported, probably out of shame and to hide such violence from their four children, three of whom were adults and one who was still a minor and who lived with the family and is now entrusted to her maternal grandmother. On the morning of the tragedy, there was no one at home.
