Pozzuoli. A medium-sized suitcase abandoned near Via Campana, an exit off Naples's East-West ring road, disrupted traffic between upper Pozzuoli and the Phlegraean Fields for approximately an hour and a half. The light gray suitcase was spotted late this afternoon by some residents on the side of the road heading toward Pozzuoli. They immediately alerted the municipal police. After a brief inspection, fearing it might contain a bomb, the State Police and bomb squad were called in. An hour of panic and tension ensued. Traffic in both directions was blocked, as were some businesses in the area. The suitcase was detonated, revealing only rags. It was a false alarm: everyone breathed a sigh of relief after a tense moment. Normal traffic has been restored.
