The Third Assize Court of Naples, following an extraordinary hearing, sentenced Tunisian Mohamed Kamel Eddine Khemiri, 43, to eight years in prison and €130 in compensation. Khemiri was found guilty of Islamic terrorism, specifically of online proselytism and indoctrination on behalf of ISIS, an activity also known as "on-ground" radicalization. Khemiri was arrested in August 2016 as part of an investigation into a syndicate that produced false documents for illegal immigrants. That investigation later uncovered proselytism on behalf of ISIS. One of Khemiri's Facebook conversations was intercepted by law enforcement: "I am ISIS as long as I live. And if I die, I urge you to join." The Tunisian man—in prison on charges of procuring false documents for illegal immigrants—attended the San Marcellino Mosque. His defense attorney, Fabio Della Corte, will appeal. The sentencing hearing has a 90-day deadline.
