The sound of Dum Dum beats strong. A long weekend of music that ranges from the charm of the turntable for vinyl selections to the most pop hits to the ancestral percussive rhythms that blend with the most contemporary beats. In the background Africa, between poetry and design.
Back to dancing barefoot illuminated by the moonlight reflecting on the sea. Space for imagination, because anything can happen on Saturday night under the stars when the undisputed protagonists of the Dum Dum Republic will be the PopPen Dj: two irreverent performers, outside the box, ironic, irreverent, eccentric and over the top. An event that has now become a cult for the beach club. The only certainty for free spirits? Guaranteed fun! Just arm yourself with joy and a pinch of madness, between disguises, false eyelashes, make-up, wigs, feather boas and the inevitable 12 cm heels.
Brilliant and never predictable, not at all minimal, but slaves to the maximal in both look and sound, the PopPen are Brunella Di Montalcino & Marina di Ravenna, aka Half Poppen & Demì Poppen, aka Feeder & Fabeat, resident DJs at the crowded travesty parties at the Estragon in Bologna.
“In pop we trust”, is their motto. Reassuring like Nutella, versatile like parmesan, genuine like a fruit picked from the branch, they delight the dance floors with their musical recipes, with a menu that expertly mixes the most frivolous pop music with the rock of all time, between sacred and ephemeral, through the 80s, the 90s and the over 2000s.
“The PopPen djs were born (under the star of Orion) on Good Friday 2004 in the now historic Black B. in Bologna, thanks to a fortuitous replacement of a dj too devoted to Holy Easter”, they say, always unconventional and without ever taking themselves too seriously. And on the hit of the summer of 2017 they add: “Definitely a piece by Nicki Minay, Jason Derulo or Taylor Swift…but for us it's been since 1981 that, late at night, on the beach, when Maracaibo starts there's no one for anyone”.
The rhythm will explode already on Saturday afternoon from 15 pm when on the beach you will dance to the rhythm of cumbia, afrobeat, brazil, salsa and highlife with Cypriot & O' Falso Baiano. Multifaceted selectors, they navigate between the frequencies of Afrobeat, Cumbia, Brazil, but also Funk and the most daring contaminations between African and Latin American music, with a selection in pure vinyl that you will hardly hear elsewhere.
On Sunday 17.00st July instead, directly from the hottest clubs in Paris, guest of the #DumDUmRevolution from XNUMXpm is the internationally renowned DJ, producer and beat maker Peet, with his electro, hip hop and afro-house sound. Already official DJ of MHD (afro-trap), he has created incredible sets for the most exclusive clubs in the world and for important festivals such as the MOMMA Festival in New York, as well as for Don Benjamin & OT Genesis, Lil Jon, Chris Brown, Tyga, Ace Hood and Booba (the best French rapper).
The opening, instead, will be entrusted to the Teranga Brothers, a collective of poets, musicians and artists whose goal is to spread the African musical tradition based on dialogue between peoples. The colors and atmospheres of Africa will be resumed, instead, in the collection “Afrique c'est Chic” by stylist Mary Serah Koroma.
