Franca Principe, the principal of Pisacane High School in Sapri, has been sentenced to one month in prison with a suspended sentence. The Potenza Court of Appeal upheld the first-instance sentence and ordered her to pay a provisional sum of fifteen thousand euros. The principal, acting as the school's legal representative, was convicted in May 2017 for an injury sustained by a student who fell from the high school terrace during state exams. "I'm disappointed," the principal confessed, but "I'm strong because I'm innocent." Meanwhile, principals in Salerno are expressing solidarity and joining forces to review the responsibilities of school principals regarding safety.
"There is disappointment," comments the lawyer Domenico Ferrante, lawyer of the principal Principe, "we will appeal to the Supreme Court. We are confident that this guilt-inducing attitude towards the employer will be overturned." Principe is convicted of objective liability for events dating back to July 2011, when a young man from Torre Orsaia of the Pisacane High School fell into the void due to the collapse of the institute's solar pavement.
