Torre del Greco woke up this morning with a new mayor, Giovanni Palomba . who won the municipal elections by beating his challenger in the run-off Luigi Apples with a clear victory: 56,12% against 43,88%.
The electoral verdict that emerged during the first round of June 10th has thus been confirmed. Palomba, Francesco's firstborn, who was mayor of Torre del Greco between 1988 and 1990, obtained the tricolour sash despite the very high percentage of abstentionism: in fact, yesterday at the vote in the city of coral, approximately 2 people out of 10 went to vote, with a turnout of 24,72%.
The new mayor of Torre del Greco was supported by the Caravan of good governance , from the civic lists It takes courage, Come on, The citizen, Together for the city, The turning point, L259, Torrese Popular Movement.
This is Giovanni Palomba's first statement after the victory:
"I am the new mayor of Torre del Greco but for everyone I am and remain Giovanni Palomba. I dedicate the victory to the city and to the people of Torre del Greco. I thank those who supported me and those who did not."

The opposite situation for Luigi Mele who, despite the support of Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, Mele Sindaco, Partito Repubblicano Italiano, Libertas, Noi con l'Italia, was unable to overturn the outcome of the first round which had already clearly given the proportions of the political "weight" of the two candidates, but despite this he believed until the end and so did his supporters and in fact he obtained more votes than 15 days ago. but it was not enough.
After the defeat, the brother of the mayoral candidate, Fabio Fiore Mele, published a video on his Facebook profile (perhaps also to respond to the fireworks set off near the committee to celebrate the victory of his rival) commenting:
“Fireworks outside our committee?? This is how we respond..Class is not water!!!”
in which the committee expresses all its solidarity and closeness to Luigi Mele, who, moved, wipes away his tears, thanks those present and promises commitment as leader of the opposition.
