Paola. The mayor of Aieta, Gennaro Marsiglia, was arrested by the Scalea Financial Police on charges of corruption and bid-rigging as part of an operation called "Appalto Amico" coordinated by Public Prosecutor Pierpaolo Bruni. Also arrested with Marsiglia were Andrea Biondi, a representative of a cooperative providing services to the municipality, and the mayor of Aieta's wife, Chiara Benvenuto, vice president and employee of another cooperative supplier, who was placed under house arrest.
The provisions were issued by the investigating judge of Paola Rosamaria Mesiti at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office and refer to procedures concerning the waste collection sector, the school assistance service for disabled people, the tax office support service, and school canteen management.
The investigation concerned the management of several public contracts in the Municipalities of Buonvicino, Maierà and other entities in the Alto Tirreno Cosentino area.
