“Four bullets and a letter were delivered this afternoon to the home of Caserta journalist Mario De Michele, director of the site campanianotizie.com, who was already threatened in recent weeks in Orta di Atella during a report on the municipal elections,” Ottavio Lucarelli, president of the Order of Journalists of Campania, said in a statement. “The Carabinieri immediately went to De Michele’s home, to whom the Order of Journalists of Campania extends its full solidarity, which is launching an appeal to the prefect, police chief and the judiciary on the new wave of threats from criminals that aim to limit freedom of information in our region,” Lucarelli concluded. “Closeness and solidarity from the Fnsi and the Unified Union of Journalists of Campania to our colleague Mario De Michele who today received four bagged bullets, found in the mailbox of his home in Caserta. The threat to the journalist was also accompanied by a letter of just a few lines, which refers to the work carried out in Orta di Atella by Mario De Michele, the same municipality where he was attacked on May 31 while conducting interviews with some candidates in the administrative elections”. This is what the Fnsi and the Campania Unified Journalists Union state in a note. “'It's your fault we are under the spotlight' states the letter, ordering him not to write about Orta di Atella anymore and specifying, with a strange play on words, 'for you Orta is dead'. The situation is particularly worrying, moreover it is not the first threat of this kind received by the journalist of the online newspaper campanianotizie.com. Last year Mario De Michele has already received some bullets, and investigations have been launched into the case. We will be alongside our colleague in all the offices. In the meantime, we will send all the relevant information to the Committee for the Safety of Journalists at the Ministry of the Interior so that it can evaluate the appropriate measures,” the note concludes.
