Sentences were reduced on appeal for a Camorra murder, that of Salvatore D'Alpino, known as "O' Brilliant," which occurred on July 30, 2015, near Piazza Garibaldi. The murder caused a sensation because it occurred in front of a pizzeria frequented by tourists who were shocked by the scene. The Naples Court of Assizes of Appeal handed down 20-year sentences each to Gennaro Buonerba, Antonio Amoroso, known as "scarpuzzedda," Luigi Criscuolo, known as "sby sby," and Salvatore Mazio, who were sentenced to life in prison in the first instance. The same sentence was handed down to Assunta Buonerba and Luigi Scafaro, who had received 30-year sentences in the first instance. When they saw Salvatore D'Alpino on the street, it was a gift for the killers. "Heaven sent him to us, come down," said Assunta Buonerba, the female boss of the "long-haired" clan in the Forcella neighborhood of Naples. She confessed to having planned the murder. Along with her, in the Court of Assizes of Appeal, her brother Gennaro, the left-handed, tattooed killer caught on camera, Antonio Amoroso, Luigi Criscuolo, who was on the scooter, and two other insiders, Salvatore Mazio and Luigi Scafaro, confessed. The prosecutor had requested confirmation of the first-instance sentence, which was life imprisonment for all except Assunta Buonerba and Scafaro, who had received thirty-year sentences. The judges ruled out premeditation in the crime, hence the significant sentence reductions and the twenty-year prison sentences for all. The murder occurred during the feud that erupted over control of the territory between the Buonerba gang and the Paranza dei Bimbi gang led by the Amirante-Brunetti-Giuliano-Sibillo clan, which resulted in dozens of deaths. On the day of the murder, the fire team was looking for another person to kill, accused of having supported the Sibillo gang in their nighttime raids on Via Oronzio Costa, the Buonerba clan's bunker, but instead they found D'Alpino. Another person, Sebastiano Caldarelli, was also injured in the shootout.
here are the key passages of the wiretap that nailed the defendants. Assunta Buonerba, the boss's sister, says: "Totore 'o brillante must be shot. He must be removed." And Emilia Sibillo, wife of the clan leader in prison Giuseppe Buonerba: "We must go for sure: Bum." Then the right opportunity arrives. The speaker is Emilia Sibillo (namesake of the rival clan), wife of the clan leader in prison Giuseppe Buonerba: "This opportunity is sent to us by the Almighty, guagliù...", she says as soon as she receives the tip-off about D'Alpino's presence in a pizzeria: "Don't start making a mess, did you hear? There's a shiny shiny boss, over there in that pizzeria, a 'shiny' boss... do something quick, ya", she says referring to Antonio Amoroso, D'Alpino's killer. Amoroso was captured on a surveillance camera on July 30th as he burst into a pizzeria in Piazza Mancini, Naples, shooting into the crowd and leaving one dead (D'Alpino) and one injured, Sabatino Caldarelli. The news quickly reached Via Oronzo Costa. Some suspect that D'Alpino's namesake and cousin, nicknamed 'o celeste, was killed because he was also in Piazza Mancini and, like his relative, was wearing a pink t-shirt. They commented: "That one did this and that one boom... believe me... he grabbed him in the face...". "But now if everything is okay, who is he, who cares... it's the same thing, even if this one is taken away it doesn't matter, that's fine, he's the cousin, he belongs to him." One dead man is as good as another, while the regent Gennaro Buonerba thinks about his killer Amoruso: “I understand now what’s happening… the police commissioner is two steps away, you understand, if three hundred guards have come down now, three thousand will come down (he is referring to the presence of a personality in the Forcella area at the same time as the murder)”. And alluding to the killer: “This one now tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, will get thirty years in prison”. Amoruso, who is easy to trace because he shot with his left hand as he is left-handed, is also reprimanded. “The fucking cause of your troubles are the tattoos”, which make him even more identifiable. But then the boss decides to give him a gift: “I took the bomb, I gave you a gift for what happened. So you throw it… I’ll throw it… it’s the same hand. We are one thing”. A bomb as a gift for having killed. A violent and do-anything clan, which also speaks of the death of Luigi Galletta, the innocent mechanic with no criminal record, first brutally beaten and then killed because he was “guilty” of being the cousin of a Buonerba hitman. The prosecutors write: “Terror and urban warfare have shocked the city. Many victims, including innocent people with no criminal record like Luigi Galletta”. Buonerba explains to an affiliate: “Do you know what our problem is? When the dog has been bitten, it feels pain… that one has been bitten… it has been beaten, now do you know what it has in it? It has the rotten one… He wants to see us killed, torn to pieces. So you have to put him away as soon as possible…”.
