Castellammare. They were ready to commit a crime, and it's possible they were about to carry out an ambush. They were armed with a loaded pistol. Therefore, they didn't hesitate to engage in a fight with the Carabinieri, who had stopped them for a check. The arrested men were Antonio Longobardi, 39, known as "Ciccillo," of Via Cicerone, already known to law enforcement for drug offenses, attempted murder, and property crimes, and Amedeo Iaccarino, 28, of Piazzale Milante Tibullo, already known for drug offenses and currently under an obligation to report to the police.
Both are charged with possession and carrying of an illegal weapon, receiving stolen goods and resisting a public official.
The aforementioned, noticed while passing through via Cosenza in a suspicious manner on a scooter, were stopped and then blocked despite a brief struggle with the carabinieri. Then, during a personal search, they were found in possession of a 6,35 caliber semi-automatic pistol with the serial number erased, found with a round in the barrel and 3 cartridges in the magazine. Around 2500 euros believed to be the proceeds of illegal activity were seized from Longobardi's possession. The arrested were taken to the Poggioreale prison. The weapon was sent to ballistics experts to establish whether it had been used in other bloody events.
