The Carabinieri of the Operative and Radiomobile Nucleus of Castellammare di Stabia together with specialized personnel from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport of Naples and Bari carried out a coordinated service aimed at verifying whether the pedal-assisted bicycles in circulation on the territory respected the factory construction characteristics.
A 44-year-old from Via Santa Caterina already known to the police for mafia association, association for the purpose of drug dealing, murder, extortion and robbery, believed to be affiliated with the D'Alessandro Camorra clan and another individual, a 54-year-old from Traversa Tavernola “known” for association for the purpose of drug dealing, murder, robbery, extortion in competition and weapons were reported because, although under special surveillance with an obligation to reside, they were out and about and were caught riding electric bicycles that had undergone modifications for which re-registration is required (in this specific case: designed to exceed the speed limit of 25 km/h prescribed as the maximum by law and with the presence of an accelerator button).
In total, 8 modified vehicles were checked and then seized and 40 violations of the Highway Code were contested because the vehicles had not been re-registered, were driven without helmets, were uninsured and were driven without the necessary driving licence.
