Another serious accident on the Appian Way occurred yesterday early afternoon in the municipality of Carinola, where a Lancia Ypsilon and a high-powered motorcycle collided. The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old from Pietravairano, was the worst injured and is in serious condition.
Thrown to the ground following a violent head-on collision with a car traveling in the opposite direction, he suffered very serious injuries and fractures to his limbs. Rescued by 118, he was stabilized on the spot and then transported in desperate conditions to the hospital in Caserta, where he is still hospitalized. The motorcyclist underwent delicate surgery and, for now, the prognosis is reserved. Following the impact, the motorcycle he was riding caught fire, the flames spread from the vehicle to the undergrowth in a few minutes and the intervention of the firefighters from the Teano detachment was necessary to put out the fire, who also cleared the roadway. The driver of the small car, according to witnesses present on the spot, initially fled. He was then tracked down by the police, a few hours later, at the hospital in Sessa Aurunca. The Carabinieri of the operational unit of the Mondragone company and the agents of the Sessa Aurunca public safety station intervened at the scene of the accident, and are working to reconstruct the dynamics and ascertain any responsibilities.
