Around one hundred inmates, deemed suitable for work outside of prison, will be employed in maintenance work in the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area. The project, initiated by Roberto Piscitello, Director General of Inmates and the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP), involves the creation of a dedicated area within the Favignana prison for inmates nearing the end of their sentences, selected to work outside the facility. The aim of the project, launched a year ago with the president of the Marine Protected Area, is to contribute to the development of the area. Piscitello visited the Favignana facility, from which three inmates escaped last year, to verify current safety standards. Recently, external cameras have been reactivated, the anti-climb system has been strengthened with nets, and the electronic monitoring system has been improved. The Director General of Detainees and the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP), who also visited the Castelvetrano prison, thanked the naval unit of the Penitentiary Police, which oversees the marine park and provides transfer services for inmates from the island of Favignana for hearings.
